Star Wars Villain Is Much Cooler Thanks To Retcons

admiral motti

While he’s really only in one scene, Admiral Motti makes a big splash in A New Hope because he’s the ultimate Death Star fanboy. He insists that the Empire doesn’t have to worry about the Rebel Alliance because “this station is now the ultimate power in the universe.”

That’s when Darth Vader decides to put the admiral in his place by saying “the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.”

That’s when Admiral Motti goes buck wild, telling the Sith Lord “don’t try to frighten us with your sorcerer’s ways” and criticizing his “sad devotion to that ancient religion.”

All Star Wars fans know what happens next: Vader Force chokes the man, giving us the iconic line “I find your lack of faith disturbing.” At a command from Grand Moff Tarkin, Vader releases Motti, allowing the bureaucrat to live another day.
