LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Chris York, the noted UK concert promoter and longtime team member at SJM Concerts, has died following a long illness. He was 55.

His passing was announced by SJM Concerts on Thursday, July 25th. Additional information about a cause of death was not disclosed.

York was part of the SJM Concerts team for more than 30 years, first joining the company in 1993 and rising to the rank of director at the company while establishing a reputation as one of the UK’s leading concert promoters.

During his tenure, he worked with some of the biggest names in music, from the Foo Fighters and Oasis to Massive Attack and the Chemical Bros.

He began his career at the Venue Nightclub in New Cross before signing on with several concert promoters, including Straight Music with John Curd and MCP Concerts with Tim Parson before joining SJM in 1993.

While at SJM, York helped to establish the Country to Country (C2C) music festival, which helped to raise the profile of numerous country artists in the UK. In 2021 was recognized for his efforts on behalf of country music with the prestigious Jo Walker Meador International Award by the Country Music Association.

In 2022, York was presented with the annual Bottle Award Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Live Music Conference.

Information regarding a memorial service for York was not announced.
