Ketika melancarkan Proton X70 pada Disember 2018, ia bukan sahaja era di mana Proton mula menjual model-model yang diasaskan dari Geely, malah ia juga merupakan detik permulaan di mana jenama automotif nasional berkenaan mula masuk ke segmen SUV. Dan ketika melancarkan X70 facelift 2025 hari ini, CEO Proton Dr. Li Chunrong mengumumkan bahawa syarikatnya kini merupakan jenama SUV no.1 di Malaysia dengan jumlah jualan kenderaan dalam segmen itu sudah pun melebihi 230,000 unit.
Selain dari SUV segmen-C X70, sehingga kini Proton telahpun mempunyai dua lagi model SUV segmen-B Proton X50 dan SUV segmen-D Proton X90 yang kini dijual di jaringan pengedarnya. Dan dari ketiga-tiga model tersebut, X50 merupakan model paling laris dengan angka jualan yang sudah pun mencecah 120,000 unit sejak ia dilancarkan pada Oktober 2020.
Versi tingkat taraf X50 RC juga baru sahaja dilancarkan pada Jun lalu, dan menurut Proton tempahannya kini sudahpun mencacah 13,000 unit. Untuk bulan Julai sahaja sebanyak 2,585 unit X50 telah berjaya diserahkan kepada pembeli. Ini menjadikan jumlah jualan kumulatif dari Januari hingga Julai tahun ini telah pun mencapai 12,789 unit, dan kekal sebagai SUV paling laris di Malaysia dengan pegangan pasaran sebanyak 10.3%
