Beloved ’80s Cult Horror On Tubi Getting Sequel From Original Writer

“I don’t want to make a typical sequel,” Farel said. “I want to make something that’s an animal of its own.” In some ways, the writer says he wants to make what he calls an “anti-sequel,” instead of just doing a predictable and tired “rehashing” of the original Spookies.

But Farel gave another surprising reason for wanting to create a sequel to Spookies. Fans might not be aware, but the powers that held the purse strings for the first film wrestled it away from Farel and the movie’s co-directors Brendan Faulkner and Thomas Doran while it was in post-production stages.

Not satisfied with what was handed to them, the executive producers then hired filmmaker Eugenie Joseph to craft new scenes, which were then edited into the existing film.
