Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I think this is the first article like this in a while where I don’t have at least one full-up paid game in the list. Sign of the times, or sign of Shaun not looking as hard as he could? Why not both? Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Disney Speedstorm, Free
Much like other Disney apps, Disney Speedstorm is slowly seeing its roster grow to include more of the many characters the company owns. This time it’s a Pirates of the Caribbean update, adding Captain Hector Barbossa, Davy Jones, Tia Dalma, and Will Turner to the game as playable racers. There’s also one new track: Arbee’s Short Circuit. Okay, look. I know who Arbee is in this game. But when I saw that name, all I could think of was a dreary roast beef sandwich that I always regretted after eating but still ordered again the next time anyway. At least the curly fries were good.
Jetpack Joyride, Free
It is Jetpack Joyride‘s anniversary again. Did you forget to buy flowers? I don’t want to know what Barry Steakfries’ dog house looks like. Anyway, a game that never misses an excuse to have an event isn’t going to let this pass without some to-do. Fly through the lab and make like JYD: grab them cakes! Collect enough of them and you’ll unlock some nifty anniversary-themed awards. Remember, kids: Jetpack Joyride is forever.
Jetpack Joyride 2,
But will Jetpack Joyride 2 be as eternal? Only time will tell. It’s certainly still kicking now, at least. There’s a new set of challenges available in the Challenge Mode, just where you would expect to find them. An anniversary celebration is afoot here as well, so that’s fun. Let’s see, what else. A new Wrestler skin, the Paint Bucket jetpack, and a new Robo Barry avatar. Since we’ve all been good children recently, there are also some bug fixes and performance improvements here as well.
World of Tanks Blitzâ„¢, Free
My gears are burning! No, that’s the name of the event: Burning Gears. It’s the wrap-up of Season 4: Anniversary, and it’s offering up plenty of cool rewards including vehicles and resources. Tanks aren’t usually good for covert ops, but you’ll be embarking on one somehow in the You Only Shoot Twice event that is incoming. If you’re lucky, you’ll get your hands on some Aerial Legendary camouflage for the AMX 13 90. There’s plenty more on tap, so check out the game itself for more details should you seek them.
Gardenscapes, Free
Ah, Gardenscapes is having an anniversary too. We’ve had a lot of fun over the years. Joking about Austin joining Smash, watching the game’s emotionally manipulative and frequently deceptive advertisements, and reviewing some ludicrous update notes. Let’s celebrate here by doing that last one again. In this update: buy a Golden Ticket to see Austin’s dancing, solve a kidnapping case, and defend a town from a gang of bandits because apparently this is Yojimbo now. Oh, and apparently there are now some ruins of an ancient city with a manuscript hidden inside. It grants wishes! What will all the characters wish for? Maybe enough coins to save that poor lady and her kid from freezing to death again?
Solitaire Stories,
MINERAL MAAAAYYYYYYHEMMMMMM! That doesn’t sound like the title of a story associated with solitaire, but here we are. We’re going bonkers for minerals. Which one is your favorite? I’m a soapstone guy, myself. How is the game going to pull drama out of this? You’ll have to play to find out. Also in this update: Go to Mars, play Rock-Paper-Scissors, and enjoy some geometry! This is a very weird update in terms of theme. I guess because school is starting up again? Well, get on it if you want it.
Squad Busters, Free
I’m afraid of no squad! Nevertheless, I am forced to call the Squad Busters for their turn at being featured in this article. Lava World is here, and if you guessed it would result in some spicy hot maps and mods, you guessed right. Three new characters are also joining: Archer, Miner, and Leon. Archer does archery, Miner mines, and Leon just Leons. You know, Leon things. There are a few new features here, mostly in the form of reward chicanery, plus some gameplay tweaks. I’ll let you dig in yourself if you want the finer details, though.
Temple Run+,
Temple Run+! The Apple Arcade one, not the normal one. No update for the normal one this time. We’re burning out the last weeks of summer here, but that won’t stop Temple Run+ from bringing back some Summer Challenges for you to take on. For a limited time only, Tamatoa is unlockable via completing challenges, so you’d best take this chance to add him to your team. That’s about it, but I suppose that’s enough for now. Good luck storming the castl… er, challenges!
Wuthering Waves, Free
Buddy, I hope you are ready to resonate, because Wuthering Waves certainly is. Two new five-star Resonators join the game: Zhezhi (Glacio, Rectifier), and Xiangli Yao (Electro, Gauntlets. There are two new five-star weapons that just happen to line up with these new characters, and some spiffy new events and stories to play. There are even some returning events lined up, which is odd because this game doesn’t feel quite old enough to be doing that kind of thing yet.
Zenless Zone Zero, Free
We’ll finish things off here. I’m aware no coveted prize has been award this week, but sometimes that happens. This update includes three new characters, two S-Rank and one A-Rank. You also get four new W-Engines, two each of S-Rank and A-Rank. A new Bangboo? A new Bangboo. Plenty of new stories and events to dig into as well, which I’m sure is the real meat many players are waiting for. That includes a new area, new enemies, and more. Lots of other little fixes, but I’ll do the usual and tell you to fire the game up if you want the full details.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
