EVx 2024: Kia EV9, EV6 on display at the Setia City Convention Centre 9am to 7pm, July 20 and 21

Happening right now is the paultan.org Electric Vehicle Expo (EVx), taking place at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) in Setia Alam, Selangor, which is ongoing over the weekend of July 20 and 21.

Among the automaker brands participating in EVx 2024 is Kia, which comes to the premier electric vehicle showcase with the EV9 that was launched recently in May this year, along with the EV6 that first arrived in June 2022.

The EV9 is offered in the Malaysian market as a six- or seven-seater, the former aiming to offer a more luxurious cabin experience and is priced higher as a result; from launch, the six-seater EV9 arrived into the market at RM374,668, while the seven-seater version with 60:40 split-folding second row was priced at RM369,888.

Measuring 5,015 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, 1,780 mm tall with a wheelbase spanning 3,100 mm, the EV9 is a considerably sized SUV, and gets more angular styling. Meanwhile, the EV6 is more modestly sized, 4,695 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, 1,550 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.

Both models share the E-GMP platform, which packs an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports 350 kW DC fast charging. In the EV9, a 99.8 kWh battery offers up to 505 km of range, and can be recharged from 10-80% state of charge in 24 minutes, while the slightly smaller EV6 with its 77.4 kWh battery can be recharged over the same 10-80% measure in 18 minutes.

Also found on both the EV9 and EV6 is the vehicle-to-load (V2L) electricity output capability, which is rated at up to 3.58 kW on the EV9 and 3.6 kW on the EV6. This can serve to power appliance such as a coffee machine, among others.

Making use of its physical size, the EV9 aims to maximised occupant comfort with features including the Premium Relaxation one-touch lie-flat front seats, which are complemented by twin 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment, also accompanied by a five-inch touchscreen for climate control.

The EV6 matches its larger, boxier sibling on screen sizing, as well as smartphone connectivity and audio output; both get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system.

These electric vehicles from Kia, and more, are on display at EVx 2024, and there are test drives available for selected models, too. Better still, make a booking on a new vehicle at EVx 2024 and you’ll receive RM1,500 worth of vouchers. EVx 2024 is ongoing this weekend at the Setia City Convention Centre, where admission to the expo is free.
