The transport ministry via JPJ will start enforcing the vehicle entry permit (VEP) for Singapore registered vehicles at land border crossing points on October 1. Following reports of high demand and long queues for the VEP RFID tag, JPJ has announced that it will open two more installation points in Johor Bahru.
The locations are the Johor JPJ HQ in Taman Daya and the Akademi Pengangkutan Jalan Wilayah Selatan at Jalan Kebun Teh Lama, Larkin. The two new centres will start operating from this Sunday, September 22, and will have the capacity to process 800 and 400 vehicles a day, respectively.
At present, the sole VEP RFID tag installation point at the VEP Collection Center (VCC) at Danga Bay has the capacity of 300 cars a day, so this is a big upgrade that brings capacity to 1,500 cars per day. JPJ says that this initiative is to make it easier for Singapore vehicle owners who have already registered for the VEP RFID tag online, assisted by JPJ personnel at the locations.
Singaporean vehicle owners can also collect their VEP RFID tag from the information counter located on the third floor of 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5. This will cost S$39 on top of the processing fee of RM10.
The road transport department is urging all foreign vehicle owners to register, install and activate the VEP RFID tag to prevent complications when entering and exiting Malaysia. Online registration and further information can be found at the VEP official website.
The enforcement of VEP is under subsection 66H of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) where it’s an offence to drive a foreign registered vehicle without a permit before entering or when in Malaysia.
