Initial images of the new Renault 4 has been revealed by the French manufacturer, prior to its official debut at the Paris Motor Show that will be taking place later this month.
While these images are partial ones without showing the vehicle in full, they do offer a glimpse of selected exterior details of the electric crossover that draws from the 4EVer Trophy concept that was unveiled in 2022.
The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric measures 4.14 meters long, slightly longer than the 3.92 metre-long Renault 5 E-Tech Electric with which it shares its AmpR Small platform. As with the Renault 5 EV, the Renault 4 EV harks back to its ancestor of the same name which was claimed to be the third-best-selling model of all time, with over eight million units sold between 1961 and 1992.
The visual references to its ancestor begin at its front fascia, which Renault says is the first from the brand to feature a backlit emblem in the centre (as shown in the first image above).
At the rear, the pill-shaped tail lamps of the original Renault 4 has been given a present-day redesign with the latest lighting technology, while above them are the trapezoidal rear quarter windows positioned above the rear wheels, as on the original car.
Its angled tailgate has a low sill, while the tailgate-mounted spoiler also offers a nod to the original Renault 4, says the carmaker. Located at the front and rear bumpers are vertical overriders, taking the place of the chrome-plated bumpers and rubber buffers of the 1960s original.
Viewed in profile, the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric features three sculpted lines in parallel along the lower section of its front and rear doors, while graphics from the sides of the windscreen reach towards the front wheelarches in another tip of the hat to the original, specifically its front fenders. There will be open-air variants too, featuring a retractable fabric roof.
There is yet to be mention of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric’s technical specifications, however its shared basis with the Renault 5 should mean that its powertrain will also be shared, which is a 150 PS/245 Nm front-mounted electric motor. In the Renault 5, battery capacities offered are 40 kWh and 52 kWh, offering 300 km and 400 km of battery range on the WLTP testing standard, respectively.
The upcoming Renault 4 E-Tech Electric will be produced in Maubeuge, France, and the electric crossover is set to arrive in showrooms in 2025.
