The Orpheum To Host The 988 Lifeline Charity Event In September

LOS ANGELES (CELEBRITYACCESS) — The historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles will host the 988 Lifeline Charity Event featuring Heart & Soul, raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention efforts around the U.S.

The event, set for the Orpheum Theater on September 9th, will feature the debut of “Heart & Soul” – A Musical Tribute to the life & times of the late soul singer Donny Hathaway. Hathaway, who suffered from mental illness, took his own life in 1979 when he was just 33.

While tragically short-lived, Hathaway’s music legacy remains and includes renditions of Leon Russell’s “A Song for You,” as well as duets “Where is the Love” and “The Closer I Get to You,” with Roberta Flack. During his life, won one Grammy Award and was also posthumously honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

“Heart & Soul” is a multimedia musical tribute built around that legacy, featuring a cast of actors and singers performing Hathaway’s songs and telling his stories. Along with the performance, the event will include a silent auction along with meet & greet opportunities and VIP experiences.

Proceeds raised from this event will go to benefit Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services — a leading provider of mental health, substance use & suicide prevention services — as well as additional mental health partner organizations, to help increase the level of care and support for potential suicide victims and their families and help raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
